Harriet Bridgeman awarded Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE)

The Bridgeman Art Library is delighted to announce that our founder and Chairman, Harriet Bridgeman, has been appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the arts.  This honor is awarded to individuals for personal bravery, achievement, or services to the United Kingdom and the British Overseas Territories."I am greatly honored and regard it as an extraordinary privilege to be rewarded for a career which has allowed me to be so closely associated with the Arts. It is also a great tribute to the Bridgeman Art Library and to the enormous contribution of all who have worked here over the years," said Viscountess Harriet Bridgeman, MA, CBE, FRSA.Harriet Bridgeman founded The Bridgeman Art Library in 1972, which provides both a central source of fine art images for reproduction as well as generating additional income for museums and galleries. In 2006, she founded the The Artists’ Collecting Society (ACS) of which she is the managing director, to collect royalties for artists under the European Union's Resale Right Directive.Harriet was awarded the European Women of Achievement Award in the Arts (1997) and International Business Woman of the Year (2005).
