DMLA Is Your Voice!

Protecting intellectual property is crucial to the success of any business. Upholding and strengthening copyright is essential to the future of our industry.

A core mission of DMLA’s is to actively advocate for copyright on behalf of our members. DMLA has been leading this charge since 1951. With the growth of the Internet and the accompanying explosion in digital media there is a greater need than ever before for copyright education, and support and advocacy for sound copyright law.

It is easy to copy, download, distribute and use digital media without permission. This is having a significant impact on the distribution and licensing of media, and the ability of member companies and artists to protect their content and grow revenue. The ability to continue to license imagery to users in an online environment remains vital to the economic survival of our industry.

The DMLA Board, Legal Counsel and Legal Committee work together to be at the forefront of the legal issues affecting rights and the ability to protect and monetize content. We have written and co-written dozens of amicus briefs in support of our members and copyright. We have also joined with other associations to support bills and legislation that best protects copyright. Recently we worked with Congress on the CASE Act, HR #3945. This bill has been passed and has created a simplified tribunal within the U.S. Copyright Office to handle small copyright claims brought by creators and small businesses across the country, helping to enforce their rights.

If your business produces, distributes or manages digital media content, consider joining DMLA and working with us. As a member, you'll have a powerful voice in shaping the future of our industry. Through our advocacy efforts and policy initiatives, we work to ensure that the interests of our members are represented and protected at all levels of government.
